

India, and the rest of the developing world, is witnessing a rapid growth in the urbanisation. Given the challenges in retro-fitting the existing cities, the development of new cities and new habitats in peri-urban or green-field areas is imperative to promote sustainable growth. Development of new cities such as GIFT, where a central zone would be developed as a high intensity employment generating area, which would also act as a nucleus for further development of a larger surrounding influence zone


Given the large deficit in housing, India would require about 25 – 30 million housing units, largely catering to low income and mid-income population. A part of this housing need would also be from government sponsored housing for low income groups and government employees. IL&FS Urban Infrastructure is exploring technology and resources to address this social challenge, on a commercial format and through Public Private Partnerships




Given the large scale investments required in public infrastructure, there would be increasing demand for public private partnerships in development of urban needs such as sports facilities, healthcare facilities, neighbour-hood markets and public buildings such as courts, transit centres and government offices - where public financing can be leveraged through an efficient Public Private Partnership
